About the Symposium

The Social Action Through Music Symposium is designed as a resource for anyone in the non-profit arts, educational, and social organizations interested in El Sistema and the power of improving young lives through the pursuit of music. The seminars are designed to explore special topics that are relevant to leaders and teachers in today’s programs through interactive and engaging seminars. Participants are encourage to choose one area of focus, leadership or teaching, and explore the challenges and possibilities of that area. Each session will be lead by a facilitator who will provide a framework of best-practices and current knowledge, followed by guest presenters relating how they handled similar situations in their organizations, and culminate with a discussion of participants’ related issues and concerns. Sessions will be an opportunity for shared problem-solving in which all session presenters and participants will be encouraged to connect the philosophy and promise of El Sistema, the music education and social development program of Venezuela.
